Founded in 2012, the Leadership Under Fire Team prepares leaders and organizations to navigate physical, mental, emotional, and moral rigors in highly-competitive settings by developing strength of mind, body, character and critical thought in order to optimize human performance.
This presentation will address the mental aspect of tactical human performance at fires and emergencies. LUF advisors will blend real-world operational experience with human factors science and research in order to equip fire officers and firefighters with an improved understanding of human behavior in high-risk tactical settings. Instructors will focus on being the incident commander at challenging and complex events, with an emphasis on how human performance factors can influence the results. These topics will be explored from the perspective of the company officer as well as the chief officer.
The instructors for this class will be Captain Dan Saalfrank and Battalion Chief Jeff Facinelli, FDNY. Both have served as program managers for the FDNY’s Mental Performance Initiative (MPI). BC Facinelli was the incident commander at a 2022 fatal 5-alarm fire in the Bronx where 17 people were killed, and an additional multi-fatality fire in 2017.
